Turritella Agate turritella4 Size: 5 x 2 inches Thickness: 1/4 inch Weight: 4.2 oz, 120 grams, 596 carats Approximate Hardness (Moh's): 7 Locality: Wyoming Notes: Turritella Agate is formed from millions of prehistoric snails that died and were then encased in silicates over millions of years, much like petrified wood. They are fossils. This slab comes from the Green River Formation in Wyoming. Turritella Agate polishes very nicely. It is sometimes misnamed Tortilla Agate! Flaws: It has one crack along the bottom and a few small vugs. The area between the brown and black looks very unstable. Price: $5.25 USD
